#2 How does Faith relate to the world in which we live?

In order to discuss this question, I must first define what “Faith” is. “Faith” is one’s belief and trust on someone or something. In my perspective, everyone has faith in one way or the other. Because one has faith, he or she has a purpose in life to live in this world.

In Peace Child, the Sawi people live to gain power and control by killing humans and eating human flesh against their instincts. They believe that consuming human makes them an eminence. I suppose Sawi can blame on their culture for that extraordinary faith; however, I personally find Sawi’s “faith” very disturbing because of such violence involved.

In our modern society, people can’t live without faith. Surely, the humans can live independently; however, they can’t withstand the world in which they live in alone. The world is too complex for naïve humans to handle. By human nature, it is easy for us to see the metaphysics, but it is formidable for us to believe in them. We are afraid of the fact that we are imperfect, impotent living creatures on Earth. Hence as a solution, people find faith to be the backbone of their presence.

Faith can also be compared to blood in our body. Without blood, humans are nothing more than a lump of fat with bones in it. Each and every being has their own faith or a belief system. One may believe in the presence of God and let God plan his way. Another may believe in Buddha and dream to meet nirvana. A person like Miss Jean would rather believe in the presence of herself. She simply believes herself as an imperfect being that has limit to what she can do and does her best to make the greatest out of her flawed character.

p.s. I like the part about "without faith we are a lump of fat and bones" that cracked me up.
